On Monday, we (Joe, Mac, my Mama, and me) left to head down to Kasilof. We were going camping and then we (Joe and me) were going fishing for King Salmon!
On the drive down the Seward Highway we realized that the Bore Tide was coming in so we pulled over to try to watch it. It is a HUGE wave that comes in with the tide! While we were waiting we saw some people out in the water with surfboards....they like to surf the Bore tide....CRAZY! We waited for a while and then decided to keep on driving.....
After a while of GORGEOUS scenery (I fully believe that there is nothing more beautiful than some of the drives in Alaska), we decided to stop at the Russian River boat ramp to stretch our legs and take pictures of the gorgeous views!
We finally arrived at our campground (Kasilof RV Park)! It was ran by this really sweet old couple. We had a view of the lake from our site. Mac has figured out how to open the camper door though and flipped out of the camper and landed on his head. He only yelled for like 5 minutes. He has some scraps and cuts but he is fine! Joe semi-freaked out...."we need to get him to the doctor. He is going to need stitches." He is so sweet to be so concerned.....he looked so worried at one point that I asked him if he was going to throw up! I guess that I will be the one dealing with the numerous injuries our super active baby is going to incur.
Joe and I had to get up super early to meet with the others at the boat launch (no lie 2 am). We somehow magically did not wake up Mac! SUCCESS! There was not too much King Salmon out so Joe is the only one who caught one! We got a couple up to the boat but it just didn't work out! The only super problem was that I had to go to the bathroom and there was NO WHERE for me to go except the nasty bait bucket. No thank you. The pink stuff in the pictures below is what we used to fish with (salmon eggs mixed with something else). It was warmer at 2 am than at 6 am which we thought was really weird. It got really cold! We were one of the first boats out on the river but then we turned around and there was literally an armada of boats behind us! We saw a lot of animals...a couple of moose and a lot of eagles! We saw bald eagles and immature bald eagles (those are all brown and have not grown their white heads yet). We saw a couple of eagle fights! When we got back to our house, Joe cut up the filets and vacuum sealed them for the freezer.
After we got done fishing, we headed back to the campsite to pack everything up! The day was completely GORGEOUS with all warm weather and sunshine! We took several pictures on the way back! We stopped at Cooper Landing, a spot viewing the 6 mile river, and another spot in the Chugach Range.
