GO DAWGS!

And we won!  Thank goodness!

This morning when Mac got up he had CRAZY hair.  I mean he usually has crazy hair but NOTHING like it was this morning.  I tried to get a picture of it but I was not really successful.

Mac had a scrambled egg, rice chex, milk, and biscuits and gravy for breakfast.  Technically he got "bih" of biscuits and gravy from off of our plates.  He loves some biscuits and gravy.  Silly boy.  After he got done grazing....he played!

When Mac went down for a nap, I ran to Michael's to get a 11X14 picture frame for our room and another candle wax warmer that was actually pretty.  I also went by Pier1 imports.  I forgot how much I LOVE that place!  I got straw fillers for our big milk jug (I put it on the stairs in a corner).  I also got a glass dispenser thing for our kitchen soap.  I plan on using mason jars to dispense soap in the bathrooms and for the hand soap in the kitchen.  Lastly, I got a set of coasters that some of our friends have that Joe decided he really liked.

When I got home, Joe decided to go up on the roof to start replacing the numerous shingles that we lost during the "hurricane."  I held the ladder.  After Mac got up, he ate a lunch of grilled cheese and then we headed outside to play while Joe was on the roof....

Here is Joe on the roof.....

Recap

This has been a crazy week....and it ain't over yet!  I had already started the week off discombobulated (with Monday being a holiday) but then.....

Hurricane Alaska happened.  I have never seen anything like it.  We lost power Tuesday evening just before 8.  The wind picked up big time.  Apparently, it was originally measuring at like 43 miles per hour but then all of the weather sensors went out as the majority of Anchorage lost power.  Joe and I literally thought for a little while that our roof was going to go flying off or that we were going to lose our fence.  Somehow after a while, I was able to go to sleep.  We didn't sleep very well though because we thought our phones were going to die and that we would not get the alarm for work.  At this time we didn't know how bad the rest of Anchorage was hit or what was really going on outside of our house.  I don't think Mac slept very well because when Joe went in there to check his windows (the wind was forcing water between the seal and the window in our bedroom) Mac popped right up in the bed.  He was up for a total of maybe 5 minutes.  Joe brought him in our bedroom in hopes that he would just go right back to sleep in our bed.  Nope.

When we woke up the next morning, the first thing we did was check our phones.  Thank goodness for Facebook because that is how I found out that work was canceled.  We still didn't have power.  Since we didn't have to work, we went right back to sleep.  The wind was way more gentle at this point.  When we woke up again, the power was still out.  We went outside to check out the damage.  There were roof shingles all in our yard.  There were trees down all through our neighborhood.  Joe called the insurance company to figure out how we could get our roof replaced and what they would cover.  Apparently, we have to meet a deductible of 1000$ and according to the estimate it was going to cost a minimum of 1000$ to replace 25 shingles.  Joe and I went to Lowe's where he found out that it was something easy enough to do on his own....so guess what Joe is doing this weekend?????

Mac had a great time though just running around and playing.  We started a fire in the house on Wednesday morning because our house was getting cold.  Mac loved staring into it!

This morning Joe had to go to work early so I took the big boy to Erica's!  He looked so stinking cute in his carseat!

With the crazy hurricane, came termination dust (snow at the top of the mountains which signals the termination of summer/fall).....That means in about a month we will be getting snow in Anchorage.  Funny story, Denali National Park has about 4 inches of snow at the visitor center way back in the park...

Crazy wind

The weather up here today is INSANE.  We have hurricane force winds that are pretty bad right now but they are supposed to get worse after nine.....We live in the area of Anchorage where it is marked 60 mph (we live under the 6).....The wind is going so hard that it just knocked over/moved Mac's playset.

Mac didn't take a nap for Erica today.  He was super cranky when he got home....but he felt better after apple juice.  We did some serious play time as a family!  Mac thought it was amazingly fun when Joe was running down the hall with him and I would pop out to scare him!

Mac and I later sat on the sofa to watch some The Big Bang Theory (we love that show).  I even got some awesome hugs!

While we were sitting on the sofa, Mac discovered that we could flip the camera in my Iphone which meant he could see himself....he LOVED that!

Guess what else I also got???????  VIDEOS!

A lot was accomplished

Since today is Labor Day, Joe and I did not have to work.  We got to spend the day around the house hanging with our little Godzilla.  He woke up in a TERRIBLE mood.  Terrible.  He eventually got over it though.....

He had a great time playing with his trucks today....I guess it is time for us to invest in more big boy toys like trucks....

We accomplished a lot today.  Seriously.  Joe has almost finished a pallet bench.  He built a pallet shelf which he also put up.

I got a lot accomplished too!  I did laundry (including our bed sheets), picked out Mac's clothes for the week, made banana muffins complete with sweet potatoes and extra bananas (froze them), made breakfast pizzas to freeze, made homemade cheesy potato soup (froze leftovers), created answer keys to almost a semester's worth of assignments, fixed some of the ABC letters in Mac's room that keep falling down, swept, and the list keeps on!

Mac ate a couple of bites of our potato soup.  After dinner, he just decided to run some serious laps around the downstairs.  He is so silly.

Lasagna recipe

Joe made an AMAZING lasagna tonight!  I thought I would share the recipe with you.....

1 pound ground sweet italian sausage
3/4 pound lean ground beef
1/2 cup minced onion
2 cloves garlic, crushed
1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
2 (6 ounce) cans tomato paste
2 (6.5 ounce) cans tomato sauce
1/2 cup water
2 tablespoons white sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons dried basil leaves
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1 tablespoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
4 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
12 lasagna noodles
16 ounces ricotta cheese
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 pound mozzarella cheese, sliced
3/4 cup grated parmesan cheese

In Dutch oven, cook sausage, ground beef, onion and garlic over medium heat until well browned.  Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, and water.  Season with sugar, basil, Italian seasoning, 1 tablespoon salt, pepper, and 2 tablespoons parsley.  Simmer, covered, for 1.5 hours, stirring occasionally.

Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil.  Cook lasagna noodles for 8-10 minutes.  Drain noodles.  Rinse with cold water.  In mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese with egg, remaining parsley and 1/2 teaspoon salt.

Preheat oven to 375.  To assemble, spread 1.5 cups of meat sauce in the bottom of a 9X13 baking dish. Arrange 6 noodles lengthwise over meat sauce.  Spread one half of the ricotta cheese mixture.  Top with a third of mozzarella cheese slices.  Spoon 1.5 cups meat sauce over mozzarella and sprinkle with 1/4 cup parmesan cheese.  Repeat layers and top with remaining mozzarella and parmesan cheese.  Cover with foil.  Bake in preheated oven for 25 minutes, uncover and then bake for 25 more minutes.

SOOOOO DELISH!

ABC wall

I got this idea from Pinterest and I thought it would be AWESOME to do in Mac's rooms.  His walls are sooooo bare!

I decided to do our own version of it to go on Mac's walls with the windows....that way it is right over the reading area!  We bought the different letters from Michaels and I got busy painting! After I got everything painted, we had a conundrum.  How in the world were we going to hang the letters on the wall?  We couldn't nail the letters to the walls because they would split soooo.....we decided to use the 3m wall hang-y things that you see in commercials.  It was kind of disappointing.  About 6 letters fell off the wall before I even got all of the letters up.  AAAAHHHHH.  We had to go back today and put more of the tape-y stuff up on the wall to hold the letters.  I managed to get a picture of it before "A" and "P" fell off.....dang I don't know what we are going to do......

Cash Blog 2.0

I am going to try this again....hopefully I don't kill the blog again on accident.  Whoopsie.

This morning we spent some time playing upstairs.  Joe wanted to clean the carpets upstairs so Mac and I played in his room.  He discovered the ottoman and had a great time standing and playing on it.

I tried to get videos on him playing on the ottoman....

Mac got a little irritated with me at one point because I wouldn't give him my cell phone so this is the face that I saw....

At one point this morning Mac and Joe were hanging out on the sofa watching tv....so sweet!

Mac really loves the glass railing that goes up the stairs.  I tried to get a picture of his face SUPER smushed up against the railing but I was only able to get a little smushed up face....and a gigantic smile!
